Rules
Board Rules
- Rules are subject to change at any time without notice; it is therefore your responsibility to check frequently and make sure you are up to date. In joining, you are bound by all rules at all times, regardless of whether or not you are aware of any changes that may have or may not have occurred.
- This forum possesses an R rating; meaning content may be inappropriate for any under 18. Moderators are constantly reviewing posts; any violation of this or any rule will cause appropriate disciplinary action to be taken.
- Beauxbâtons is a place for good English to be practiced; if you are not a native English speaker, there is some leeway but all efforts should be made.
- There is a ONE character per household policy. Any additional characters will be matched by IP and appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken. If you have another family member who wishes to join, they may do so, only after you have received confirmation that your letter has been received ( by AidezMoi (at) bbamagic (dot) com) and been given permission to proceed. To discourage multiple accounts, all family members will be sorted into the same house.
- Beauxbâtons Academy of Magic takes place in an alternate universe. What this means is Harry Potter never existed here; neither did Lord Voldemort or the Death Eaters. All the events that took place in the Harry Potter series have not happened here and therefore do not affect anything that goes on here. This school takes place in current day.
- BBA is moderated by a team of fair and unbiased individuals who have demonstrated maturity in their actions. Therefore, all statements and requests made by them must be followed expediously. Should you wish to appeal a decision made by a moderator, send an email to AidezMoi (at) bbamagic (dot) com with 'APPEAL: decision' as the subject line and please include all relevant information. Until your appeal is granted, please follow the request of the moderator.
- Should you have any questions, comments, concerns, or problems, please feel free to speak to an Admin or a Moderator. If no one is currently available, you may leave a PM for Meredith Tesla or email her at AidezMoi (at) bbamagic (dot) com. Make sure you describe your problem as clearly as possible with as much detail as you can. Any suggested improvements to the board must be made in the corresponding forum.
- Appeals for lost points must be made to AidezMoi (at) bbamagic (dot) com. Please put 'APPEAL: decision' as the subject line and include relevant details.
- Appeals for suspensions/expulsions must be made to AidezMoi (at) bbamagic (dot) com. Please put 'APPEAL: decision' as the subject line and include relevant details.
- Requests for house changes must be made to AidezMoi (at) bbamagic (dot) com. Keep in mind that with the request for house change must be included strong, quoted evidence why this change is necessary.
- Because the IRC server is considered an extension of the school, all actions that occur on the server in violation of school rules can and will be punished on the board. The channels on the BBA network will not be used to air administrative grievances. All complaints that wish to have a fair appraisal shall be sent to the administrative staff through the above outlined procedures.
- Spamming/Advertising will result in a direct ban. Posting of pornographic or offensive images will likewise result in a direct indefinite ban. If in doubt for any reason, the administration reserves the right to take immediate action and grant a hearing afterwards, or to take immediate action with no hearing but appeals will be heard.
- Avatars are to be limited to 100x100 pixels and 15KB. Continued abuse will result in you losing your privileges to have an avatar.
- “Hot linking” is not allowed. There are plenty of free hosting sites to choose from (i.e. geocities, photobucket etc.)
- Signature image size is limited to 500 pixels wide by 100 pixels tall. No dolls are allowed in your signature (it makes them too tall), except for special occasions, such as formals and balls.
Roleplaying Rules
- Please note that no individual can be omnipotent, omniscient, nor all-innocent, perfect, or ridiculously beautiful. No student comes as an animagus, metamorphmagus, nor is any student vampiric or lycanthropic (in other words, nothing other than human). Students should attempt to use spells within their character's limitations, and should not attempt to use spells that are beyond the average performance level for their character's year. The Governing Council reserves the right to remove or modify any post which may contain spells or actions that are inappropriate to a character's age.
- Students are not required to attend any class if they do not wish to. However, advancement to higher levels is impossible if a character does not participate in classes. Furthermore, students cannot have access to jobs unless they are invited or in the case of an exceptional application. Students may gain special abilities or be permitted requested abilities by taking specific courses. Once students have achieved a set number of criterion for completion of their year, they may advance. The following chart shows approximate Percent-to-grade conversion:
|
| % Grade | Grade Letter |
| 85+ | O |
| 65-84 | E |
| 50-64 | A |
| 41-49 | P |
| 40- | D |
|
- Year Progression:
To progress from Year 1 to Year 2, you need 3 passing grades in classes. Every year thereafter is 4 passing grades.
To take higher level classes, you must still complete the prerequisites the professors lay out.
Using the IRC Chat consistently can count as a 'passing' class grade(think extra curricular credit). This is available each term (so for 7 terms you can potentially get 7 passing free grades by chilling out in the chat room when you have free time).
After completing Year 6, students may choose to graduate early. To be permitted to graduate early, a job or apprenticeship is required.
Students may of course choose to stay on for their 7th year at Beauxbâtons and take Advanced Placement Courses (Level 7). Students who graduate with an average of 5.5 classes per year (3 for first year, 6 each successive year, minimal) will graduate with Academic Honors.
- When creating your student’s background, keep in mind that you are a normal 11 year old witch/wizard. Very few students at Beauxbatons should have parents that work at the Ministry of Magic or anything like that. Be creative when choosing your parent’s professions. Also, none of your siblings would have gone to Hogwarts or Durmstrang instead of Beauxbatons, and if in trouble, none of your family members would have been sent to Azkaban, (there are French prisons). Students at Beauxbâtons Academy of Magic will have come from France or neighboring European countries. Beauxbâtons Academy of Magic does not accept transfer students.
- Students may make up their own spells; however, they must be Latin-based, unless permission is granted by the administration. We encourage you to be creative, however, we ask that you include the meaning of the spell in [brackets] after the incantation if the meaning is obtuse or in another language other than Latin. This makes it easier on everyone.
- Powerplay (the influencing of something beyond a character's control) is strictly prohibited, and monitored closely. Characters will first be given a warning and then appropriate disciplinary action will be taken the second time. For example: "John shot a stunner at James and it hit James and James fainted." BAD! - "John shot a stunner at James, hoping it would hit." "James: Oh no! Alas, I will now faint!" Much Better.
- By decree of the Governing council, all character names MUST consist of a first and last name, and your username must be your character name. Last names from the Harry Potter books are prohibited, but first names are not. Bad: Plant Potter, Good: Harry Gorilla. No characters may be related in any way to any of the characters from the past books or books to come. Please note that names are initially capitalised, eg. Marco Polo (although subnames, eg. de la or von may be lower-case). Failure to comply with this during registration will lead to termination of account.
- In order to be sorted, students MUST first activate their account by responding to the link sent via email, and then posting at "La Roche Des Âges - Sorting" (found in Join and Welcome). You will then be sorted into your house: Flamme (Fire), Eau (Water), Ciel (Sky), or Terre (Earth).
